He’s one of the UK’s most respected pundits; when Jamie Carragher speaks, football fans listen.
And the Liverpool icon has been reflecting on some of the stand-out moments in the Premier League in 2015 as the year draws to a close.
For his latest Daily Mail column, Carragher has been analysing some of the division’s best signings this season, and it’s pretty hard to argue with hi No.1 pick.
In the summer, there was a wealth of stars on their way to these shores, many of whom boasted stellar price tags and renowned reputations.
Roberto Firmino rocked up at Liverpool, whilst Petr Cech swapped Chelsea for Arsenal and Memphis Depay arrived at Old Trafford.
Some have been more successful than others and Sky Sports pundit Carragher is left in little doubt about who has proven the best value for money.
Step forward Leicester City’s N’Golo Kante.
The holding midfielder has been a revelation for the Foxes since arriving for £5.6 million from French side Caen, and has already appears to have won the hearts and minds of the King Power faithful.
Carragher writes: “If Dimitri Payet, who had been inspirational for West Ham following his arrival from Marseille, had remained fit, he may well have won this category.
“The attacking midfielder was the architect of West Ham’s eye-catching early wins at the Emirates, Anfield and the Etihad Stadium and made his £10million fee look great value.
“Petr Cech, who swapped Chelsea for Arsenal for a similar price, has brought improvement to Arsene Wenger’s side and will continue to make them better.
“Kante, however, has been just as influential as Mahrez and Jamie Vardy in Leicester’s rise to the top and another feather in the cap of their scouting department.”
Fair play, Jamie. He’s been a pretty outstanding pick this season.
