Now, this may sound a bit odd, but bear with us.
Wayne Rooney has been picking out a Star Wars footballing XI, and revealing who he’d play alongside in a galactic team based around the space saga.
To celebrate Star Wars being made in the UK for almost 40 years, the Manchester United captain revealed who some of the movie’s characters best relate to in his career and there are some pretty amusing answers.
In midfield, Rooney casts Juan Mata as his “footballing Yoda”, which when you hear at first, comparing one of your team-mates to a tiny, decrepid green alien might not sound like an obvious compliment.
But Rooney cites the fact that the Spaniard is “very talented, small…and in some ways he’s a bit of a genius.”
We’re with him on that one, nice choice.
Another interesting choice is Hibs manager Alan Stubbs as his “Jedi Master”
The pair played together at Everton for a brief time when Rooney was a teenager and Stubbs was a veteran centre-back, with Rooney saying: “He was someone I looked up to and still do.”
The England skipper also throws in Chewbacca to his defence, and starts with BB-8 up top – alongside himself.
What do you make of Rooney’s choices?
