Manager Roy Hodgson’s right-hand man was snapped by photographers carrying detailed notes after the squad’s latest training session in Chantilly, seemingly showing a line-up for Saturday’s match.
It appears to show both Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy starting up-front, and Wayne Rooney dropping into a midfield role – as he’s done well for Manchester United in recent months.
The notes also appear to illustrate that either James Milner or Ross Barkley could start on the right side of an advanced midfield, whilst Jordan Henderson could be asked to fill in as a back-up for Raheem Sterling on the left.
The defence is not noted on Lewington’s piece of paper, but has five midfielders across the page and two strikers – suggesting that England could be about to play with a back three.
What do you think of the tactics? Would the be successful?
