Weekend Wins and Youth Titles

Weekend Wins and Youth Titles

FLASH BACK

Last Friday the 17th of June, in Leeds the IBF Youth middleweight title was settled between Reece Cartwright and Henri Kekaleinan with Cartwright taking the win on points. It takes the 21 year old onto 13 and 0 so who knows where the next 12 months could take him…

The following night, on Saturday the 18th June the WBC Youth silver light heavyweight title went to Liam Conroy after a devastating 4th round knockout of Ferenc Albert. Conroy should now be getting his name into the mix with bigger fights to come; seriously good win here.

In Chicago the WBA bantamweight title rematch between Juan Carlos Payano and Rau’shee Warren went the way I thought it might as Warren recorded a majority decision. It’s been a weekend of unfamiliar names and along with Warren we should be taking account of another Smith. Little known Joe Smith Jr – a part time boxer who also works construction – stopped Poland’s Andrej Fonfara in the 1st round! Who? Get on this guy who is already talking of bigger and better fights to come.

The lightweight contest in York Hall that includes Ohara Davies is on Tuesday so nothing to report as yet – not even an opponent as there is still no word as yet as to who he shall be fighting…
