A cheeky little Blackburn mascot told the referees to punish Manchester United players before yesterday’s FA Cup game – and Jose Mourinho saw the funny side of it.

It happened just before kick-off in the fifth round match at Ewood Park on Sunday when Mourinho was speaking to the officials.

Referee Martin Atkinson wasn’t there at the time, but his linesmen Harry Lennard and Stephen Child were – and got some funny stick from the little fan.

The mascot told them, in front of Mourinho, not to give any yellow or red cards to the Blackburn players and instead hand them all out to all of the away team.

And the Portuguese gaffer took it well:

Fair play to Mourinho – considering he’s pretty intense the rest of the time, it’s good to see the lighter side of his personality again.

And he’d have continued smiling after the match too as his United side earned a 2-1 win to advance to the quarter finals of the FA Cup.

That keeps them on course to challenge for three cups this season – with back-to-back FA Cups up for grabs.
