Liam Gallagher has suggested that Pep Guardiola should be shown the Man City exit door if he has another trophy-less season, following the Catalan’s disappointing first campaign in the Premier League.
This time last year, Guardiola arrived at the Etihad with the reputation as one of Europe’s top managers, following trophy-laden spells at Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
But his first full season in the Premier League didn’t go so well, with his star-studded City squad only managing to finish third, behind Spurs and Chelsea.
More will be expected next season, and speaking to French football magazine So Foot, via the Mirror, the former Oasis front-man said: “It is absolutely necessary to win the title next season, we cannot leave it to Chelsea again.
“If we [Manchester City] don’t win anything then he [Pep Guardiola] won’t be able to stay.”
“We have gone beyond that stage. We have to win the title and we must do well in the Champions League.
“Pep made a mistake in getting rid of Joe Hart so soon. He shot himself in the foot.
“He should have kept him for another season, especially with Kompany’s injury. Without them two, there was a lack of leadership in defence.”
City have already completed the capture of Bernardo Silva from Monaco this summer, and are expected to sign experienced right-back Dani Alves.
But what do you make of Liam’s claims? Should Pep really be sacked this time next year if he hasn’t won the Premier League by then?
