Robert Pires Explains Why ‘Warrior’ Mesut Ozil is Frustrated at Arsenal

Robert Pires has explained why ‘warrior’ Mesut Ozil is frustrated at Arsenal right now.

The French great has remained close to the Gunners since leaving the club in 2006, regularly revisiting the first team to join in with first team sessions and catch up with Arsene Wenger.

He knows what it takes to get success at Arsenal, winning four major trophies during his six years in north London.

So Pires is a good soundboard for what’s going on at the Emirates at the moment – just days after Arsenal lost 2-1 to Watford in the Premier League to slip to sixth in the Premier League table.

Recent talk has surrounded the happiness of Ozil and star teammate Alexis Sanchez, with both players approaching the end of their contracts at the end of this season and there appearing to be no progress towards extensions.

What does Pires think of it? He was asked that in an interview with Bild recently and explained why Ozil isn’t happy.

Per espnfc.co.uk, Pires said: “Ozil is a warrior who wants to win something, and currently he makes the impression that he’s annoyed Arsenal have not assembled a squad which can win something.

“They only spent money on Alexandre Lacazette. That’s not enough to compete for the top spots.”

That won’t be good for Arsenal fans to read, but they should be buoyed by Pires’ words about them returning to the top of the game.

He added: “It’s incredibly difficult to consistently remain at the top in England.

“But I still believe in Arsenal and first of all in Arsene Wenger. I think it’s right he penned a new two-year deal.”

It’s doubtful that Ozil and Sanchez will remain at Arsenal beyond the end of this season and that would be a big setback for the club.

But what do fans think? Will Ozil and Sanchez leave?
