Celtic full-back Cristian Gamboa was in action for Costa Rica this afternoon in their World Cup opener against Serbia – and there’s plenty of Hoops fans who reckon he deserves another chance to prove his worth in Scotland.
The 28-year-old is the first-choice right-back for Costa Rica despite having only played a handful of matches for Brendan Rodgers throughout the 2017/18 campaign, and started today’s Group D opener against Serbia.
Costa Rica were defeated 1-0 courtesy of a stunning second-half Kolarov free-kick, but it seems Gamboa came out with some credit, at least.
In total, Gamboa played just two Premiership matches for Celtic last season, as well as once in the Champions League in the 3-0 defeat away at Bayern Munich.
He was expected to depart Glasgow this summer, but there’s certainly still a few people who reckon he could still contribute to Celtic next season:
That gamboa for Costa Rica looks a player, Celtic should try and sign him…

Gamboa looks like a pretty decent right back here. Time for a run in the team?

Can’t understand why Gamboa can’t get in this Celtic squad. Hasn’t put a foot wrong in the #CostaRicaSerbia game

How can Gamboa be a starter for Costa Rica but yet no get a game for Celtic?

Is it just me or is Gamboa the only one doing his part for the Costa Rican team? :/ #FifaWorldCup2018

Is there any chance at all that Gamboa could resurrect his spell in Scottish football?
