Brendan Rodgers Confirms Leigh Griffiths to Take Time Off Due to Ongoing ‘Personal Issues’

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Leigh Griffiths will be taking some time off from football in order to deal with some ongoing ‘personal issues’ in his private life.

Griffiths has been in and out of the Hoops side all season, with muscular injuries given as the official reason to the public, but it seems the Scotland striker has been battling demons privately for some time now.

The 27-year-old missed training yesterday, and when speaking to the media today ahead of Thursday’s Europa League showdown with RB Salzburg, Rodgers gave a detailed explanation of why Griffths will be left out of the Celtic team for the foreseeable future.

Of course, the priority for everyone involved is the welfare and mental well-being of Griffiths – that goes without saying – and we wish him nothing but all the best in his full recovery.

But, in a football sense, with Odsonne Edouard the club’s only senior out-and-out striker, how big a blow is this to Rodgers?
