Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has refused to rule out his assistant Mikel Arteta replacing Unai Emery as Arsenal manager.
Emery is under serious pressure following Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to Southampton – a result which leaves the North London side eighth in the Premier League and eight points off fourth-placed Chelsea.
Ex-Gunners midfielder Arteta has previously been mentioned as a potential Arsenal boss, and was interviewed for the role before Emery was appointed in the summer of 2018.
And when asked directly about the situation today, Guardiola certainly didn’t dismiss the notion that Arteta could once again be tempted to make a return to the Emirates.
Speaking via the Mirror ahead of tomorrow night’s Champions League tie against Shakhtar Donetsk, Guardiola cryptically said: “For sure he will be a manager.
“I would like him to stay with us as long as possible.
“But personal life is personal life, his professional desire is professional.
Do you think Arteta would make a decent choice as Arsenal manager, or would such a massive club need a bigger name and more experienced character?
