The 18-year-old Brazilian was given the nod to start this evening’s London derby at Stamford Bridge, with new Gunners boss Mikel Arteta opting for a youthful-looking side away to Frank Lampard’s men.
When David Luiz was sent off on 26 minutes for a professional foul, and Jorginho scored the resultant penalty, it looked like it might be a long night for Arsenal, but Martinelli had a trick up his sleeve for the second-half.
In total, Martinelli ran a pretty astonishing 67 yards, and coolly tucked the ball beyond Kepa just 13 seconds after Chelsea had taken an offensive corner.
That goal takes Martinelli into double-figures in all competitions this season, but is he now an automatic starter under Arteta for the time being?
