Olivier Giroud scored a great opening goal for Chelsea against Tottenham this afternoon.
The French striker got the nod from Frank Lampard for the visit of Spurs to Stamford Bridge in the early English Premier League game.
Michy Batshuayi actually started Chelsea’s last game – a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United at home.
But it’s Giroud’s chance today and he’s taken it already with an early goal in the game.
He actually had the first chance that led to the goal, but was stopped by Hugo Lloris. Ross Barkley hit the rebound off the post before the ball dropped at the feet of Giroud, who made no mistake with his second effort:
That shows you the sort of quality Giroud can provide in front of goal for Chelsea.
It’s actually the Frenchman’s first Premier League goal of the season as he’s had to spend the majority of it playing second fiddle to Tammy Abraham, who has been injured recently.
