Paul Merson has made the surprising admission that Chelsea are the biggest team in London.
The former Arsenal midfielder is making his usual appearance on Sky Sports’ Gillette Soccer Saturday this afternoon.
And the early English Premier League kick-off was top of the agenda, with Chelsea drawing 2-2 away at Leicester.
It’s a decent point for Frank Lampard’s men as they continue their pursuit of a Champions League place.
But Merson concentrated on the club’s lack of signings in the January transfer window, insisting that he hopes Lampard doesn’t use it as a crutch if Chelsea don’t make the top four.
At the same time, Merson insisted Chelsea are the biggest team in London so should have no problem attracting new players:
That comment is sure to annoy Arsenal fans considering he’s one of their former players.
Merson made 327 appearances for the club at the beginning of his career and is one of their best playmakers in the last 30 years – among some illustrious company.
