Frank Lampard Update Suggests Billy Gilmour In Line For Chelsea Start v Everton

Frank Lampard has confirmed Mateo Kovacic will miss Chelsea‘s clash with Everton this weekend – paving the way for Billy Gilmour to start.

The Blues manager faced the media this afternoon ahead of his side’s English Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

They go into the game in confident mood following their 2-0 victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup in midweek.

And that’s despite a number of influential players missing out through injury and suspension.

Kovacic started that game against Liverpool, but lasted just 42 minutes before being forced off with an achilles injury.

Not that it mattered much, though, as Gilmour produced a man of the match performance to show exactly why he’s so highly rated.

Lampard spoke today and gave an update on the fitness of Kovacic – and while it’s bad news for the Croatian midfielder, it could be good news for Gilmour if it means another start:

N’Golo Kante remains injured too, while Jorginho is suspended for Sunday’s game – so Gilmour emerges as one of the best options at Lampard’s disposal in midfield.
