For regular readers, that’ll be my mum, last weekend was barren of most things – apart frae hoose parties obvs. – but a couple of fights did happen worthy of mention.
Firstly, on Saturday the 19th September back in The Bubble, Las Vegas, at super lightweight Jose Pedraza got a 10 round win against Javier Molina by unanimous decision. Former world title holder Pedraza is clearly hoping to get himself back in the mix and this 10 rounder keeps him active. We know him because he beat Stephen Smith but of his losses, two came courtesy of Vasyl Lomachenko and Gervonta Davis, so he has been in there with the elite. He clearly wants to get back there now and winning is one way of making that happen!
24 hours later, in Dnipro, Ukraine, heavyweight Andriy Rudenko also registered a 10 round points win against Kostiantyn Dovbyshchenko. It may be that losses to Lucas Browne and Hughie Fury might demote his ambition but given the state of the heavyweight scene there are a few big name and payday opportunities for this former opponent of Povetkin.
On the same bill and in the same month we have been talking about a much travelled Danny Williams, the Devon based heavyweight Kamil Sokolowski registered another loss against Ali Eren Demirezen in a 6 rounder that will pay some bills. Sokolowski is well enough known in the UK as a former opponent of lesser fighters in the heavyweight ladder like Kash Ali, David Price, Nick Webb and Lucas Browne but a rugged fighter, nonetheless. In times like these it is good to see the sport giving the bread and butter fighters some of the jam.
